Former IGP Benazir Ahmed and family skip ACC questioning again

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed's wife and two daughters failed to appear before the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today, despite a rescheduled appointment for questioning regarding allegations of illicit wealth accumulation.

ACC Secretary Khorsheda Yasmin confirmed to reporters this afternoon that the family members did not attend and instead submitted a written statement explaining their absence.

“This statement was filed alongside a similar application from Benazir Ahmed himself, submitted last Thursday. Neither party requested an extension for their appearance,” said Khorsheda.

The ACC will now review the statements and determine the next steps in the investigation, she added.

This development follows Benazir Ahmed's own non-appearance before the ACC on Sunday, further escalating the ongoing probe into the family's financial affairs.

ACC Secretary Khorsheda confirmed that the commission's investigative team will submit their report within the designated time frame, following which a decision will be made regarding the allegations against former IGP Benazir Ahmed and his family.

She emphasized that the same legal procedures applicable to all individuals will be followed in this case.

The ACC had initially summoned Benazir Ahmed for questioning on June 6th, and his wife and children on June 9th, but Ahmed requested a 15-day extension through his lawyer on June 5.

Despite submitting a written statement on June 21, Ahmed failed to appear before the commission, as did his family members today.

The investigation into the allegations of illicit wealth accumulation is ongoing, and the ACC will proceed based on the findings of the investigative team's report.
